Hospital ICT team take on Cycle Live for Nottingham Hospitals Charity

Ten members of Nottingham University Hospitals Trust’s ICT team are taking on a cycle challenge to raise money for patients at the hospitals where they work.

The team will swap keyboards and monitors for handlebars and brakes to take on Cycle Live in Nottingham on Sunday 23 June 2019. They will ride a range of distances, from 25 miles to a whopping 100 miles, and aim to raise more than £900 for Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Cycle Live takes place around the county’s streets and villages and Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Big Appeal is the official three-year charity partner for the event, which is organised by Nottingham-based Perfect Motion.

The team last week (16 May) met with Barbara Cathcart, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, and Chris Simon, Director of Perfect Motion.

Paul Turner, ICT Specialist Systems Administrator at Nottingham’s hospitals, said: “A small group of us undertook the 25 mile route last year and decided we needed something to challenge us to get us out practicing together and at the same time help others. Working towards the good of others is really fundamental to all of us working at the hospital, so this was perfect.

“Nottingham Hospitals Charity interacts with the ICT team on a fairly regular basis as it provides funding to allow us to implement systems and devices that would not be possible without charitable funding. We get to see first-hand how much of a difference the Charity makes for others and so we wanted to support them and the amazing efforts they make for our hospitals.”

Barbara Cathcart, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We’re delighted that our hospitals’ very own ICT department are taking part in Cycle Live to raise money for Nottingham Hospitals Charity. It’s a true testament to the team spirit at Nottingham’s hospitals that this group of people who spend their working days helping the hospitals, are also spending their spare time going the extra mile to do the very same. We wish the team the best of luck with their training and hope they have a great time taking part in Cycle Live.”

Chris Simon, Managing Director of Perfect Motion, said: “I am delighted that we are working with Nottingham Hospitals Charity and NUH again for the second year. Working together, we hope to get more people to take part in Cycle Live and continue to raise vital funds for such a worthwhile local cause. I would like to thank all the team at NUH and Nottingham Hospitals Charity, and all who fundraise on their behalf.”
